Rosa Ellen Swain

Rosa Ellen Swain was born on January 21, 1947, in Siloam, Greene County, Georgia, to the late Arlene and Fred Swain. She was the fifth of nine children, with three brothers and five sisters. From an early age, Rosa was known for her warm heart, strong spirit, and caring nature. She was a woman who believed in family, hard work, and showing love through her actions.

Rosa was a member of Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church, where she found comfort, fellowship, and strength in her faith. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she carried that faith with her throughout her journey.

Rosa graduated from David T. Howard High School, Class of 1966. While still in high school, she began working at the Marriott Hotel. What started as a young woman’s first job grew into a remarkable career of more than 15 years. Rosa was dedicated, dependable, and committed to everything she put her hands to. She later worked at Publix Super Markets for more than 20 years, where she continued to demonstrate the same dedication and work ethic before retiring.

Rosa was truly the definition of a hard worker. She took pride in being dependable and rarely, if ever, missed a day of work. She believed in showing up, doing her best, and taking care of her responsibilities. Her commitment to her work was just one of the many qualities that made her special to the people who knew and loved her.

But for Rosa, family was at the heart of everything.

She had a special way of making people feel welcomed and cared for. Rosa loved to cook, and Mondays were especially special because she enjoyed preparing a good meal and feeding her family. Her kitchen was a place where love was served right alongside the food.

Rosa’s love extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a loving sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and a special presence in the lives of many. She had a kind and giving heart, and those who knew her will remember her for her strength, generosity, laughter, and the genuine love she showed to others. She was the type of person whose presence could make a difference, and her absence will be deeply felt.

After a life filled with hard work, faith, family, love, and countless memories, Rosa Ellen Swain’s earthly journey came to an end on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Though she is no longer with us physically, the love she gave and the memories she created will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Rosa was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Arlene and Fred Swain; her sisters, Dorothy Swain, Florine Tuggle, and Lillie Baugh; and her brother, Fred Swain Jr.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her sisters, Marilyn Heard (Ralph Heard) and Vivian (Elaine) Swain; her brothers, Sam Swain (Jessie Swain) and Richard Swain; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

She also leaves behind her dear friend Shirley Shackelford and godson Terry Massey, who held a special place in her heart.

Although our hearts are heavy with the loss of Rosa, we can find comfort in knowing that her life was one of purpose, love, dedication, and service to others. Her legacy will live on through the family she loved, the people she touched, the meals she prepared, the lessons she taught, and the countless memories she leaves behind. Rest peacefully, Rosa. Your work here is done. Your love will never be forgotten, and your memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know you.
